The group chat can start planning its virtual Japan road trip. PlayStation 5 owners finally have a date for joining Forza Horizon 6, although the drive begins next year.

Standard and Deluxe editions arrive on January 26, 2027. Premium Edition owners get access from January 21. Playground Games announced the dates on October 8, and the news continued drawing coverage on October 9.

The practical detail is that PS5 players will be able to race with people on Xbox and Steam. The official announcement confirms both cross-platform play and cross-save, along with shared community creations.

Your console does not have to split the squad

Cross-play lets friends on supported platforms play together. Cross-save lets progress carry across supported versions. They solve different problems, and having both is useful when a gaming group owns a mixture of machines.

Neither phrase, by itself, means buying one copy gives you every platform’s version. Players should check the store terms for the edition they want before assuming a purchase transfers too.

Community-made races, car designs and tuning setups will also work across platforms. That means the PS5 launch brings new players into an existing creative community, rather than asking everyone to start building it again.

What kind of game is this?

Forza Horizon takes racing beyond a single closed circuit. Its Japan setting mixes driving, exploration and a festival campaign. You can chase the next event, or spend time enjoying the roads and building a car collection.

Gematsu’s coverage describes a campaign that begins with the player arriving as a tourist and working towards entry into the Horizon Festival. It also highlights customizable garages and tools for creating experiences with other players.

That is part of the appeal for people who enjoy cars but do not want every session to feel like a serious driving exam. Sometimes the plan is a competitive race. Sometimes the plan is simply to cruise with friends.

The wait, the graphics and the editions

Thurrott’s October 9 report notes that the PS5 release had previously been expected in 2026. Xbox and PC players have already had access since May, so PlayStation owners are joining later.

The PS5 trailer uses a 4K, 30-frames-per-second Quality mode. A 60fps Performance mode is also promised. These are announced options, not independent performance test results.

The first paid expansion launches across platforms on January 21. A free content update is also planned, with more details to follow.

For now, the useful calendar entry is clear: January 26 for the regular launch, or January 21 for Premium early access. The extra five days are a choice, not a requirement to join the road trip.
