Minecraft's next big adventure is The Sift, a new dimension arriving in 2027

Java and Bedrock players will get a fourth dimension, while Dungeons II offers the first visit.

Your next Minecraft adventure may take you somewhere beyond the familiar three worlds. At Minecraft Live on September 26, Mojang confirmed that The Sift is coming to both Java and Bedrock in 2027.

That is a major promise for a game built around exploration. The new dimension will sit alongside the Overworld, Nether and End. But before anyone starts searching for a secret portal tonight, there is a catch: the main-game version is still in development.

Two games, two arrival dates

Xbox Wire's announcement says players will first visit The Sift in Minecraft Dungeons II, scheduled to launch on September 29. Its arrival in the main Minecraft game is planned for the following year.

Those are separate releases. Buying or opening one game does not mean the new dimension has suddenly appeared in the other. It is an easy detail to lose when a short clip races through a group chat.

In Dungeons II, The Sift includes unusual creatures, shifting tides that affect characters, dangerous blocks and different environments. Xbox highlighted areas called Meadows and Carapace. The setting had already been introduced at Gamescom; the big new development was confirmation that it would also reach the main game.

Exactly how players will enter it in Java and Bedrock has not yet been explained. Nor has Mojang promised that every Dungeons II feature will appear unchanged. A setting can be shared across games without the rules being identical.

A bigger map is only part of the story

The official Minecraft Live recap describes Dungeons II as having a connected world, with rifts leading into The Sift. It also highlights jumping and exploration as parts of that adventure.

For regular Minecraft players, the interesting possibility is having another place to learn, explore and eventually make familiar. New surroundings can give a long-running world a fresh sense of discovery. That is the appeal; the exact tools and challenges still need to be shown.

Neowin also reported the announcement, describing it as the first new dimension since 2011. That long gap helps explain why this reveal stands out from an ordinary content update.

There was more than one reveal

Mojang also previewed ice caves for an upcoming game drop, with icicles, glowing ice crystals and an unnamed frozen zombie. Those features are a separate announcement from The Sift. Mixing them together would give players the wrong picture of what belongs where.

For now, keep the calendar simple: Dungeons II is scheduled for September 29, and The Sift in Java and Bedrock is planned for 2027. There is no confirmed exact date for the latter. The adventure looks promising, but a preview is still a preview, however badly your pickaxe wants a holiday.
