Huawei’s new tri-fold phone opens big, with a price to match

There is asking your phone to do more. Then there is asking it to unfold into something closer to a small tablet.

Huawei has introduced the Mate XT 2, a device that opens twice to reveal a larger display. What the official specifications say

The company also lists several versions, including models with a privacy display. That distinction matters: a feature shown in a launch presentation should not automatically be assumed to appear on every version at the starting price.

The simple appeal is screen space. A larger surface could make it easier to read a document, look at a map or keep more information visible at once. Whether that becomes useful in everyday life depends on the software as much as the folding mechanism.

The hinge is part of the story
