Insomniac’s new superhero game puts close combat first, while reviews disagree on how well the whole package works.

Logan has finally moved from trailers into players’ hands. After months of previews, the question is no longer when his new game will arrive. It is what kind of superhero adventure people will find when they press play.
PlayStation confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine launched on September 15 for PS5. The action-adventure comes from Insomniac Games, working with Marvel Games, and gives the famous clawed character his own new story.
Anyone expecting another vast map to swing across should reset that expectation. In his Game Informer review, Matt Miller describes a linear adventure whose strongest feature is its fast, forceful combat.
That means the experience is built around a more directed journey. The appeal depends less on wandering wherever you like and more on whether the encounters, movement and story keep pulling you forward.
Miller praised the fighting and performances, while finding parts of the story confusing and some slower sections restrictive. His assessment suggests a game with a clear strength, even when the pieces around it do not always connect smoothly.
GamesRadar’s Leon Hurley was less impressed. He found enjoyable moments, particularly in Tokyo, but criticised the narrow environments, uneven storytelling and how long it takes the combat systems to come together.
Those are reviewers’ judgments, not a universal verdict on what every player will enjoy. Two people can spend time with the same game and come away valuing very different things. One wants the fights to feel good. Another needs the story between them to do more work.
The disagreement is more useful than a simple battle over whether the game is amazing or terrible. It identifies the actual trade-off: a focused action experience may suit someone who wants momentum, while disappointing someone hoping for more exploration or deeper variety.
There is also a difference between loving a character and loving every game built around that character. Wolverine can be your favourite mutant without making a purchase compulsory. The fan club does not send attendance notices.
For people comparing impressions, it helps to look at what a reviewer discusses rather than only the number beside the review. Combat, story, freedom and pacing are separate qualities. A single score compresses all of them into something much less informative.
The launch gives players the chance to judge how those priorities line up with their own. What is already clear from the early reviews is that this is a directed, combat-heavy take on Logan, with enough differences in opinion to make the details worth reading.
