Xiaomi wants its cars on European roads in 2027

Its IFA pitch connects the phone in your pocket, the car outside and the devices at home.

Your phone brand may soon want a parking space too.

Xiaomi's electric-car plans drew attention at IFA in Berlin, with Euronews reporting on Sunday that the company is aiming to bring its vehicles to Europe in 2027. The proposed expansion is part of a wider attempt to connect personal devices, cars and home technology. Euronews' report from IFA.

The date describes a plan. It should not be read as confirmation that a particular model is available to buy in every European country, or that local prices and delivery dates have all been settled.

The car is one part of the pitch

IFA's official programme describes Xiaomi's approach as “Human × Car × Home”. The idea is to link the devices people carry, the vehicles they travel in and the products they use around the house. The programme also highlights a larger European presence for Mijia, Xiaomi's smart-home brand. The official IFA programme.

In ordinary language, the ambition is that these things should work together without making the owner act as a full-time technical-support department. That is an appealing promise. Whether it feels simple in practice will depend on the products and the connections between them.

Imagine the difference between owning several clever devices and having them cooperate reliably. The second is the harder job. A useful connection should remove effort, rather than create a new app notification every time you reach for the light switch.

A European plan has been taking shape

Xiaomi has previously described a European research and design centre in Munich, with work covering vehicle technology, design and customer needs. Its own announcement identified preparation for a 2027 European market entry. That provides company-level background to the plans being discussed at IFA. A local research presence is one piece of the preparation. It does not answer every practical question a buyer might have. The useful follow-up details will be the models offered, the countries served, the price and the support available after purchase.

What matters beyond the exhibition stand

The interesting part is how far the company wants to stretch a relationship that may have started with a phone. A car is a much larger commitment, and its usefulness cannot be judged only by how neatly it connects to a living-room device.

For now, IFA has provided a clearer view of Xiaomi's direction. The ambition is a connected experience spanning pocket, driveway and home. The next test is turning that ambitious diagram into products people can actually buy, use and get serviced.
